This resource pack is designed to teach the differences and similarities in working life between the past and the present over several lessons, or when needed. The pack is a visual stimulus to promote discussion and illustrates why jobs were different in the past. Clothing and tools are covered in more detail. The aim of this resource pack is to introduce pupils to ways of travelling to school now and in the past. Pupils complete graphs on how they travel to school, how their parents travelled to school and how their grandparents travelled to school. They answer questions about what they have found out and compare the different ways of travelling. Pupils should learn to distinguish between aspects of their lives and past times, sequence modes of transport correctly and sequence three drawings relating to their own lives.

This resource looks at writing a legend. There are 4 parts which look at : Beginnings : What should be included at the start of a legend, setting the scene, looking at words and phrases to describe it. Characters: Looking at the words and phrases to describe an extraordinary character and what features pupils can reproduce for their own character. Problems and Resolutions: Looking at the problems that could be encountered, and how, in an exciting way, these can be resolved.

This resource pack revises the use of a thesaurus to choose appropriate synonyms and demonstrates how the choice of words can change the shade of meaning in poetry. Pupils can use the interactive activity to create their own concrete poem using a typical Welsh image as a background to build their poem upon and then print out the completed version. Alternatively the activity could be used for whole class demonstration before printing out backgrounds for the children to write their poem on.

This unit focuses on the opening of a suspense story. The children read the opening then identify the different forms of figurative speech that have been used to add effect. Personification, metaphors and similes are explained and examples shown. Children then go on to write the opening of their own suspense story using a picture of haunted house as stimulus.

This resources pack introduces pupils to the idea of repeating patterns of an ABAB design, and then to an AABAAB design. Pupils look at colour patterns, shape patterns and picture patterns using Welsh emblems. They have the opportunity to finish off patterns which have been started using colours, shapes and pictures. Pupils create their own colour patterns using a worksheet of different shapes. Desirable outcomes: recognise and recreate simple patterns, recognise and name colours and recognise and name simple shapes.
